Current Thoughts

I missed January. I'm not lazy. Really. I have actually been very busy working on photographs and other stuff. In fact, I have been working very hard on building up a starter stock photography portfolio at several microstock photography agencies. I now have somewhere between 50-80 photographs online at each of these agencies. Getting there has taken its toll on my free time, though, and so some updates to the website has languished a bit. I feel sort of bad about it but I knew it was only a question of time until I returned with the idea and energy to add something new.

I have a couple more really strong photographs in the pipeline but this one tells me the story of a a very stormy day on San Juan Island in the winter as the coastline gets absolutely pounded by high wind and waves.

In addition to adding the holiday book guides from Outdoor Photographer Magazine and Shutterbug, we've also kept up our book list that showcases the 2006 Books of the Month as identified from the UK-based publication Outdoor Photography.

Wine Tasting and Vineyard Updates

For most of our vines, this will be their fourth year since they were planted. The root systems have had three years to develop and the vine trunks of the more robust vines are getting close to two centimeters in diameter. Last year, although I had hoped to get my first fruit, I made a strategic decision to force the root systems to grow. While the vines were healthy and green through the year, the result was that the vines just could not pull enough water to help the grapes ripen -- and so I grew a bunch of unripe raisins.

This year, I have many key learnings to apply as I really do intend to get a first real crop. My plan for the year is now posted. Now, the key is figuring out if I can keep to it.

As noted above, I've been building a stronger portfolio of stock images with a number of microstock agencies on the Internet. In the last month, I've added another new agency, ImageVortex.
