This book is very different compared to Into Thin
Air, probably his most well-known book. This book describes
Krakauer's experiences with a variety of smaller and shorter climbing expeditions
and other adventures that Krakauer has had
over a number of years. A highlight for me was the description of ice climbing in
Alaska. In many ways, this is a more personal book that offers much
more background on Krakauer's ambitions and goals of climbing.
In addition to other awards, Jon Krakauer won the
American Alpine Club's
Literary
Award in 1986.
