Touching the Void: The Harrowing First Person Account Of One Man's Miraculous Survival
Joe Simpson

This book describes not only the excitement and energy that Simpson and his climbing partner had with their first ascent in the Andes but it also details the incredible determination of the author who, after being left for dead, crawled out of a crevasse and down the mountain with a broken leg. Given the circumstances, it's amazing that Simpson remembers as much of the experience as he did.

One of the best survival books out there.

Touching the Void won the 1988 Boardman-Tasker Memorial Prize for Mountain Literature.
